TOKYO WINE SOCIETY TASTING

New world wines winning with Bordeaux style

October 20, 2017

We tasted wines influenced by Michel Rolland. Two bottles from Bordeaux - one from his own winery and one from chateau that he has co-produced, and others from overseas where he has influenced as the “flying” winemaking consultants.

In the magazine “Drinking business”, it said Emile Peynard who helped modernize Bordeaux, was the original International winemaker, then carried on to two persons, also from Bordeaux as the most influential world-wide winemakers, the Boissenot and Michel Rolland.

Michel Rolland (born December 24, 1947 in Libourne, France) is a Bordeaux-based oenologist, with hundreds of clients across 13 countries and influencing wine style around the world. He was also picked up by documentary movie “Mondovino” with some criticism.

AS we taste them, we realized about similarity. Of course, they are all influenced by one person. We still sense some differences and these must come from terroir. Making wine in Bordeaux style is not just destroying it but making the difference more clearer.
